When I run website audits, I often see the same simple mistakes repeated across many small business websites. The good news? These are easy to fix — and correcting them can immediately boost user engagement, conversions, and even SEO.
1️⃣ No Clear Call-to-Action (CTA) on the Homepage
Your homepage should guide visitors to take an action — whether that’s contacting you, signing up, or buying. Without a strong CTA, people just scroll and leave.
✅ Fix It:
-
Add one clear button above the fold (e.g., “Get a Free Quote” or “Request a Free Audit”).
-
Repeat your CTA at least 2–3 times on the homepage.
-
Keep it consistent — don’t confuse visitors with multiple different CTAs.
2️⃣ Missing Meta Descriptions or Duplicate Titles
Meta descriptions and titles are what show up on Google search results. If they’re missing or duplicated, your site looks sloppy and won’t attract clicks.
✅ Fix It:
-
Write a unique title + meta description for every page.
-
Include your main keyword naturally.
-
Keep titles under 60 characters and descriptions under 160.

3️⃣ Untracked Conversions (No Goals/Events in Analytics)
If you don’t track conversions, you can’t measure success. Many websites track traffic but forget to track actions that matter (form fills, button clicks, purchases).
✅ Fix It:
-
In Google Analytics 4 (GA4), set up conversion events.
-
Track button clicks (like “Contact Us”) and form submissions.
-
Link Google Analytics with Google Tag Manager for easier event setup.

4️⃣ Non-Responsive Elements on Mobile
More than 60% of visitors come from mobile devices. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re losing customers instantly.
✅ Fix It:
-
Test your site with Page speed insights
-
Use a responsive WordPress theme (like Astra, Neve, or Hestia).
-
Check that all buttons and menus work well on small screens.

⚡ Wrap-Up
These four issues — weak CTAs, missing SEO tags, no conversion tracking, and poor mobile responsiveness — are the most common problems I find in audits.
The best part? You don’t need expensive tools to fix them. Start small, make these changes, and you’ll likely see an immediate lift in user engagement and leads.
